One game a day

Everyone starts the Daily the same way: with the same piece already on the board and the same first three pieces to place. The piece and its place are picked for each day. After that, the pieces you get depend on where you put yours, as in every game.

You get one try. The Daily has no continue: it ends the first time none of your pieces fits. If you leave in the middle, the game keeps your Daily as it is, and leaving doesn’t use it up. Come back and finish it before the day ends.

The Daily needs an internet connection to start, so that every score can reach the leaderboard before the day ends. If your connection drops during a game, you can play on: the game sends your score the next time it reaches our server, and the score counts only if it reaches our server by the time the day ends, or less than 15 seconds after.

When a Daily starts and ends

A new Daily starts at midnight in San Francisco (US Pacific time), for everyone at the same moment. That’s 9:00 in Central Europe for most of the year; for a few weeks a year it’s 8:00 there, while Europe and the US change their clocks on different dates. The game shows you when the Daily ends in your own time, and how long is left.

In its last 15 minutes the Daily counts down on screen. A game still going when the day ends doesn’t count and earns no stars, and the new day’s Daily is ready to play.

The date on the Daily is the date in San Francisco. In Europe the new Daily starts in the morning, so until then the game still shows the day before.

One leaderboard for everyone

Each day’s Daily has one leaderboard for everyone, which shows how many have played and where you stand. While you play, TO BEAT shows the top score so far; it turns to BEATEN once you pass it.

When the day ends, the top score wins. A tie for first is a win for each player: two players on the same top score both finish first.

The winner collects 100 stars the next day, on top of the 60 stars a day anyone can earn by playing. Stars open new looks for the game, never an advantage. Everyone sees yesterday’s winner on the game’s home screen.

Every score is checked

When you finish, the game sends the moves you made, not just your score. Our server plays them again from the day’s start, with the same game code, and keeps the score only if it comes out the same. A made-up score, an impossible move or an unfinished game doesn’t get on the leaderboard.

Each player’s first finished Daily of the day is the one that counts. A score that reaches our server 15 seconds or more after the day ends doesn’t count: our server’s clock decides, not your device’s.

You choose the name shown next to your score, and you can change it any time in Settings. Players can report a name that isn’t OK, or block a player.

Stars from the Daily

A finished Daily earns stars like any game: 1 for finishing, plus 1 per 2,500 points, up to 5. The 2 extra stars for beating your own high score don’t apply, because the Daily is one game a day. How stars and scoring work.
